news: show on sept 28 with bradley hathaway cancelled. apparently bradley is very, very sick. prayers out to him. i have the feeling its because he tours forever and does not stop pushing himself.

take the hint and skip school tomorrow so you can sleep. or else you will be sick too.

word...

school is back in session. chris and i live across the hall from each other, and chris is living with renegade, the guy that recorded and produced our first album. we have a lot of new stuff written and expect to start recording very soon. we hope to have some new songs up in a week or two and a full album hopefully by november. we are very excited.

also, i am pretty sure that on thursday, september 1st, voting begins on shine.fm's website to see who will win the summer of independent artists. the grand prize is an opening slot at a john reuben concert and some record label attention. we will definitely keep everybody posted. also included in the grand prize is free studio time, but we wont be needing that. renegade has built his entire storage room into a complete recording studio, meaning the next cd will sound ten times bigger and better.

i cant wait.

in even more news, we have decided that sometime soon we are going to try and start releasing a new song once every week. this will start as soon as we start recording.

we cant wait to get this school year started. everything is looking up. thankyou so much for holding tight this summer. this semester is going to explode in your face like that time i lit fireworks in my hand and didnt throw them fast enough and they blew up and burned my skin really bad and jakes mom had to rub aloe on my hands.

news:

we have decided to not play ampfest in sterling, illinois next saturday at the grandon civic center. but ampfest will still happen, and we think you should go because there are a lot of sweet bands playing like kids in the way, falling up, and the fold.

the reason we are not playing is because my grammas 80th birthday is that day, and she is having a big birthday party, and all my cousins are going to be there. its gonna be st louis, and that is five hours away from sterling.

when i was much, much younger, (like nine years old) i told my gramma i hated school, and that life sucked, and nothing was really interesting to me anymore. so she bought me this little picture in a frame that said: "let us give thanks to the Lord and be glad, because this is the day that He has made." i thought it was sort of wierd at the time, but the older i get, the more it means to me.

wipe your tears and go to ampfest

news!

shine fm is having an independant artists contest, where bands submit their best song, a picture and a short bio. celebrity judges help pick the winners, but in the final round (which happens around late august or early september), fans vote on the internet for the final winner. until then, they just get some air play and everyone gets to check them out on shine.fm's website.

what does the final winner get? well, they wont tell us. but apparently its big or something. or at least thats what the dj keeps saying.

the sweet thing is pushmode is the winner for this week, so shine has been playing a 30 second clip of "i wish" every hour or two on shine. its surreal, but its sweet. following the clip is matt from superchick on the phone, telling the dj that this is the best thing he has heard all summer.

i dont know about anyone else, but im freaked out. im just trying not to get my hopes up.

all the runners up get two free books from relevant though. (even though i already own one of them, haha.)

anyways, check it out:

Indiana Show # 4,456 [16 Jun 2005|05:27pm]
[ mood | busy ]

We played a show at a camp in Indiana. This was a mixed crowd, like all the kids in the front and a few middle seaters were really really into it while kids further back gave us death stares. Thing is the kids up front REALLY REALLY liked us, one girl knows "Dynomite" the song I do alone, word for freaking word. It made me feel really good. It was awesome, and the smile is still on my face. Further proof of how awesome God is. Drew went with us, which I'm thankful for because I alwas hear how cool he is but have rarely had the oppoortunity to experiece it for myself.

After the show we hung with the kids and one girl goes, "You have changed my life Christopher Sanders"..okay I'm kidding butRead more... )

we played at a church camp last night in indianapolis. it was such a cool place to be. last night was a supreme example in my mind of how much God loves us, and how good it feels to recieve that love through the attitudes and actions of the friends and people around me. uhrissuh had such a smile on her face, and i am so happy that she hooked us up with this show AND was there as a camp counselor. i could tell she was on the same page, its so awesome to feel that connection and know whats going on. and its so fun to see the same friends in new places. and my roomate drew rode with us, and we didnt get back until 4:30 in the morning, and we both woke up two hours later to go to work, and i have yet to ever hear a word of complaint from that kid. the only thing he kept saying was, "thanks for letting me come, this was so much fun." and he also said my favorite quote of the night, "man, being a roadie for you guys is way cooler than hardcore bands." that last one made me laugh. and the kids were insanely cool. i mean there was the obvious, "im too cool crowd" sitting in the back, but the kids in the front TORE UP and it were super fun and interactive. i love shows when we can break down the walls between us and the crowd and just chill and have fun and talk to each other in between songs. these kids were so cool.

i cant explain how exhausted i am right now, but i cant wipe this smile off my face. last night left ezekiel 37 reeling through my head. sometimes i really cant help but picture us as an army. and by us i mean all of us.

God is love and love is real.

ps, ill post pictures later.

A friend of mine wrote this in her journal a few months ago. It struck me as very moving and close to my own experiences. I asked her for permission to use it and she said yes. I wanted to share it with you guys.

"I have been thinking lately about certain subjects having to do with God. You might hear certain "christian" rhetoric at church and amongst other people who are "saved." Im not gonna lie, one of my biggest annoyances about organized religion is christian rhetoric. I understand that rhetoric happens amongst people of common interests and beliefs. However, I definitely feel that it can be scary and seclusive. I guess you could compare it to the way doctors and those in the medical proffession converse. To an outsider you would be completely lost as to what was being communicated. This concerns me and definitely makes me frustrated! For example, I hate it when people ask "are you saved?"

This question implies that you were once unsaved. Is this true? I firmly believe that christ died once and for all and his sacrifice was sufficient. We were always saved...we just may not recognize it or acknowledge it; we just might not believe it. I might be taking things a little bit too literally but i really believe that sometimes christian rhetoric can be a stumbling block to unbelievers as well as other christians. Sometimes i feel like you can say a whole lot, but a whole lot of nothing. Is intellectual christian talk sincere or has it become some kind of code dividing the saved from the unsaved? Is this the way Jesus interacted in his time? I am willing to say a big NO. Jesus made a point to hang around the "unsaved" as we might call it today."
